DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
The world has been visiting various types of Natural and human induced disasters every year, even some major disasters like floods, droughts, hail storms, lightening, health hazards and mining based disasters are very common phenomenon in every parts of the world. Given the factors like geographical areas, population, rapid urbanization, weak infrastructures, improper supporting components to disaster mitigation etc are contributing largely to it. Vulnerability of these disasters is being increased due to lack of coordinated efforts, lack of proper motivation, awareness, training, research etc. Proper information & communication, community participation and motivation become prerequisites for a prompt and comprehensive action towards disaster resilience. Initiatives required to be taken to consign comprehensive disaster management practices towards tackling the disaster situations (pre-during & post disaster situations), especially in community level.
The whole idea to establish an Institution in Ranchi is aiming at introducing the community level capacity building towards making the society a disaster resilient society. These subject matter trainings may be imparted to the various stakeholders like community, students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Police and fire service personnel. I am very much sanguine that IDMR would attempt to bring the resilience to the vulnerable communities of the state, of the country and of the world as well.
